Turning Concern into Action
The St. Vincent de Paul Society (or as it is often known - the SVP) is an international Christian voluntary organisation dedicated to tackling poverty and disadvantage by providing practical assistance to those in need – irrespective of ideology, faith, ethnicity, age or gender. The Society is a lay organisation initially formed in Paris in 1833 by Blessed Frédéric Ozanam and his companions, and active in England & Wales since 1844. Placed under the Patronage of St. Vincent de Paul, it is inspired by his thinking and works. It seeks, in the spirit of justice and charity, to help those who are suffering poverty in whatever form.
Our Vision
Our vision, which is inspired by Christ's message to love our neighbour as ourselves, is for individuals and families who are in any form of need to have hope, together with a sense of dignity, worth, well-being and peace of mind.
Our Mission
Our mission is to seek and find those in need, to help them in a spirit of justice and to tackle the causes of poverty where we can.
What We Do
As individuals:
through our active membership of local groups whose members visit, befriend and offer support, within their means, to any person in need.
As a Society:
by working together to provide a national and international network of support by providing a range of projects which address particular needs for those who are economically disadvantaged by working together with other Vincentian groups to raise awareness of the level of need and the causes of poverty.

Holywell SVP
The Holywell SVP Conference was formed here in Holywell in 1938 and now marks its 83rd year.
As part of the core values of the SVP we visit the sick, the elderly in their own homes and nursing homes plus hospital visits. We also work with local government departments providing help to parents or single parents, single people, in fact anyone who is in need of help.
Although this past year has been difficult we have still managed to provide furniture, white goods, beds and bedding, basic essentials and food for those in need. At Christmas we provide food hampers, courtesy of St Richard Gwyn High School, and children’s toys and gifts donated by our very kind parishioners.
At the moment we have 12 full members and one auxiliary member, but we are getting older and desperately need new blood. All we ask is that you give a couple of hours every week and to be able to attend weekly meetings usually held at 3 pm on Mondays during the winter months. The meetings are obviously not possible at present but we still continue working but distanced and a great deal is by phone contact now.
